  • There are hundreds of trade groups and associations in the United States representing manufacturers in nearly every major industry. They perform a wide range of activities for their manufacturer members, including setting manufacturing guidelines to ensure the safety of products, certifying products as meeting those manufacturing guidelines, endorsing products and allowing their names to be placed on products, conducting testing and research on products, and lobbying on behalf of the industry. By engaging in these activities, trade groups often influence the way products are made and how manufacturers conduct business. Trade groups are now starting to have a major impact in the courtroom as well.
