Biography

Matthew C. Lamstein is a partner in and co-chairs the firm’s Real Estate practice group where he focuses his practice on commercial real estate with particular emphasis on acquisitions, leasing and financing transactions. Mr. Lamstein has substantial experience representing banks, insurance companies and other major financial institutions as well as owners and developers of real property in connection with complex commercial real estate transactions, including the structuring, financing, acquisition, sale and development of commercial, residential, multi-family and mixed-use properties throughout the United States. In the past year, Mr. Lamstein has closed over 30 multi-family syndicated transactions at a approximate value of $500,000,000. In a number of these transactions, Mr. Lamstein guided and advised his clients through complicated like-kind exchange and tenancy-in-common structures. Mr. Lamstein is also a frequent lecturer on issues related to real estate law, with topics including commercial and ground leasing, commercial mortgage financing, acquisitions and sales of real estate, multi-family development and condominiums and cooperative housing corporations. His philanthropic efforts include, among other things, work for The Long Island Jewish North Shore University Hospital Child Life Program, Sunrise Day Camps, The Institute for Student Achievement, as well as The Nature Conservancy and the Alzheimer’s Association. Mr. Lamstein is also a board member of the Advancement For Commerce Industry & Technology, Inc., which is an organization which promotes, develops and preserves business on Long Island.

Mr. Lamstein is graduate of Colgate University (B.A., 1984), and Cornell Law School (J.D., 1987), and is a member of the Suffolk County, New York State and Connecticut Bar Associations.
