Ruth Swenson's passion for advocating change began as a special education teacher in Colorado.
Working within the special education system brought to light issues that needed policy revision or legal intervention to rectify. As a passionate and committed educator, Ruth spoke openly among colleagues about the need for change, and she ultimately decided obtaining a law degree was the most effective way to achieving needed changes.
Since graduating from the University of Nebraska College of Law with her Juris Doctor, Ruth concentrated in the area of practice that matters most to the people around her - family law. Her educational background provides her with the practicality, patience, understanding and zeal to help her clients and see them succeed. Her knowledge of special education uniquely equips her to handle education-based issues and family law cases involving clients and children with special needs. In all, she strives to provide her clients with the chance to resolve legal issues fairly and justly.
Since 1993 Ruth has operated her own law firm, now a solo-practice, Ruth M. Swenson, LLC, in Mesa. She is able to assist clients in divorce mediation, collaborative divorce and litigation in her private practice. She also serves as Judge Pro Tem, Maricopa County Superior Court's Family Law Division, which allows her to hear both sides of family law cases and assist the parties and their attorneys if represented to settle some or all of their family law issues prior to the final hearing or trial.
