Julissa Rodriguez is the Chair of the Firm’s Miami Appellate Department and a member of the Firm's National Appellate Practice. Julie is Board Certified in Appellate Practice by The Florida Bar. She focuses her practice on appellate litigation and trial support during all stages of litigation, which includes pre-trial motion practice, jury instructions, post-trial motion practice and proceedings supplementary. She also advises clients on securing stays of orders or judgments while a case is pending on appeal. Julie has over 16 years of experience representing clients in both state and federal courts in a variety of areas of the law, including products liability, class action defense, business and tort litigation, real estate litigation, insurance disputes and employment litigation.

Experience: Representative Matters; Represented insurance company in multimillion insurance dispute with insureds regarding both the contractual liability of the insurance company and the liability of the insureds and their successor-in-interest, which resulted in a judgment against the insureds. Worked with the trial team to provide litigation support leading up to the appeal. Served as lead appellate counsel in successfully defending the judgment against the insureds and litigated the successor-in-interest issue on appeal, all of which resulted in a global settlement in our client's benefit.; Represented real estate developer in plaintiffs' appeal of a summary judgment involving a dispute over a commercial real estate transaction valued at $80 million, which resulted in a dismissal of all claims alleged against our client, including claims for breach of contract and fraud.; Represented family members in appeals arising from probate dispute, resulting in decisions in favor of the family and against the personal representative of the estate who was seeking to hold them liable for attorneys' fees and costs for alleged bad faith conduct.; Member of appellate team that represented entity owned by the State of Israel in federal appeal before the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, where we prevailed in having the appellate court affirm the dismissal of all claims against our client based on the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act in a lawsuit relating to the sale of weapons to the Bolivian military.; Represented financial institution in plaintiff's appeal of a final summary judgment, where the appellate court affirmed the trial court's decision that plaintiff's claim for violation of Florida's Consumer Collection Protection Act was barred by Florida's absolute litigation privilege.; Represent real estate developers and various real estate development companies in proceedings supplementary actions, in which plaintiff is seeking to hold the companies liable as alter egos of an individual to satisfy a multimillion dollar judgment that plaintiff obtained against the individual.; After an historic and complex settlement between the State of Florida, on the one hand, and various tobacco companies, on the other, represent on appeal one of the tobacco companies facing a multimillion dollar judgment, with payment obligations in perpetuity. The dispute centers on the scope of liability under the settlement agreement, following the sale of cigarette brands.; Member of appellate team representing business owner in numerous interlocutory appellate proceedings involving various contractual disputes over the control of a business enterprise. All cases have been heard before a Louisiana state appellate court, applying Louisiana Civil Law. We advise the client and local counsel on appellate strategy and brief the issues on appellate review.; Member of appellate team that represented tobacco company in product liability litigation, where smokers and their survivors brought class-action lawsuit against cigarette companies and industry organizations seeking to recover for alleged smoking-related injuries. The Florida Supreme Court decertified the class, after which former class members filed thousands of lawsuits against the tobacco companies. Provided strategic support to trial teams to oversee the trials and prepare for the appeals. Due to the interrelated nature of these product liability cases, each case was critical to maintaining our client's overall defense strategy. Served as lead appellate counsel on numerous cases from the trial stage through the appellate process, and managed appellate process for approximately 50 cases on average during the litigation, including coordinating strategy with trial and other appellate attorneys for co-defendants.; Member of appellate team that represented tobacco company in multimillion dollar personal injury dispute involving the application in Florida of Daubert v.
