Mendy Halberstam is a Principal in the Miami, Florida, office of Jackson Lewis P.C. He has extensive experience in both state and federal civil rights litigation matters.
Prior to joining Jackson Lewis, Mr. Halberstam represented various municipalities and police officers in defending complex civil rights lawsuits. Mr. Halberstam also litigated numerous cases in federal court arising under the Fair Housing Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act. Mr. Halberstam has experience representing parties before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and he has handled cases involving claims of race, age, disability and sex discrimination, as well as sexual harassment, retaliatory discharge, wage and hour, and non-compete/ restrictive covenant issues.
Mr. Halberstam ranked fourth in his graduating class at Florida International University College of Law. He earned a number of distinctions including Dean's List for each eligible semester, Dean's Honor Society, CALI Excellence for the Future Awards in Legal Research and Writing, Trial and Appellate Advocacy, and Sales of Goods Under the Uniform Commercial Code. He was the recipient of the Florida Bar’s Young Lawyers Division Scholarship and had the winning submission in the Attorneys’ Title Insurance Fund Writing Competition. Mr. Halberstam also served as a Comments Editor of the FIU Law Review, supervising a team of associate members.
During the Intramural Moot Court Competition, Mr. Halberstam and his co-counsel wrote one of the top briefs, and he placed as one of the top five orators in the competition. Ultimately, Mr. Halberstam’s team finished second overall and advanced to the final round, where Mr. Halberstam was awarded the Runner-Up Best Orator award by United States District Judges Cecilia Altonaga, Adalberto Jordan, K. Michael Moore, and Third District Court of Appeals Judge Barbara Lagoa.
Mr. Halberstam speaks Hebrew and Yiddish.
