Ugo mainly advises clients on international succession and trust planning as well as on complex cross-border inheritance matters with a particular focus on English and Italian conflict of laws issues, also in the context of high-profile litigation. His practice includes assisting international high-net and ultra-high-net worth individuals and families, their advisors or trustees, with English, Italian and EU substantive and tax issues.
Ugo has gained experience also in English and Italian family law matters, with a particular emphasis on issues regarding jurisdiction over separation and divorce proceedings, the analysis of matrimonial regimes applicable to ‘international couples’, the validity and effectiveness of nuptial agreements in different jurisdictions and the impact of all the foregoing factors on estate and tax planning matters.
As part of the process to qualify as a Solicitor, Ugo has spent six months working in each of the following English departments of the firm: Wealth Planning, Family, Corporate (Milan) and Litigation & Arbitration.
Ugo has been based in London since he joined the firm in 2010 and, up to the end of August 2014, worked with the UK Italian Desk on matters with a main Italian angle. At the UK Italian Desk, Ugo has gained expertise on international succession and estate planning, with particular emphasis on the analysis of conflict of law issues and the application of private international laws, both in contentious and non-contentious matters. As an avvocato, he has also built a significant expertise on investments in the Italian real estate market, assisting both on residential and commercial purchases and in asset and share deals.
He has also expertise in a range of commercial matters (e.g. agency, distribution, licence), having provided general commercial support to UK, Italian and international corporate clients, also in contentious contexts. He also has knowledge in the use and application of international conventions and European laws applicable to international contracts as well as on jurisdictional issues and the enforcement of foreign judgments.
