Robert F. Elliott is a senior partner at Bartlett, McDonough & Monaghan. Mr. Elliott is a 1981 graduate of Downstate Medical Center where he received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. He worked as a Registered Professional Nurse, Hospital Risk Manager and Safety Officer from 1981 through 1989 when he graduated from Brooklyn Law School with his Juris Doctorate Degree. He immediately dedicated his career to the defense of health care providers and health care facilities in medical malpractice litigation as well as regulatory and other administrative proceedings by taking an associate position with Bower & Gardner, then the largest medical malpractice defense firm in New York City.
In 1992, Mr. Elliott joined the then new firm Bartlett, McDonough & Monaghan, LLP as its first associate and was recognized for his legal talent the following year when he was made partner. Bartlett, McDonough & Monaghan, LLP has expanded to four locations with offices in Mineola, New York; New York City; White Plains, New York; and Islip, New York.
Mr. Elliott is recognized as a preeminent member of the Bar by Martindale Hubble. He was named a “Top Lawyer” in New York by the N.Y. Times in 2011 as well as a “Super Lawyer” in Thompson Reuters Super Lawyer magazine for 2011. He was recently made a member of Swarthmore’s Who’s Who — Worldwide, which exemplifies his leadership and achievement as an attorney. He is a founding member of the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers and proudly serves as its 10th Judicial District Director.
Mr. Elliott also regularly teaches attorneys through continuing legal education and earns high marks for his legal acumen, wit and humorous presentations. He also teaches health care providers at continuing medical education seminars. His presentations range from healthcare ethics to medical liability issues. He has in excess of forty defense verdicts in medical malpractice cases. Most of these were multi-million dollar matters ranging from Ophthalmology to neurologically impaired adults and children.
