Only 2.5 percent of the state's attorneys are named to the list. In 2010, Michael received Minnesota Lawyer's "Up and Coming Attorneys" award reserved for attorneys who have distinguished themselves during their first 10 years of practice. Michael was one of 25 honorees selected. Michael began working at SiebenCarey as a law clerk before graduating from William Mitchell College of Law. Prior to joining the firm, Michael served as a judicial extern in the U.S. District Court, District of Minnesota, clerked for two Hennepin County District Court Judges, and represented clients through William Mitchell's Civil Advocacy Clinic, successfully arguing before the Minnesota Court of Appeals.
