  • On Wednesday, June 15 2016, European Union (“EU”) officials agreed on a regulatory framework for the responsible sourcing of conflict minerals. Conflict minerals are certain ores (specifically columbite-tantalite, from which tantalum is produced; cassiterite, from which tin is produced; gold; wolframite, from which tungsten is produced; and their derivatives) mined in areas of armed conflict and human rights violations. Trade in these minerals funds violence as profits flow to the armed groups that control the mines.
