Ms. Maxwell received her B.S. in Industrial & Labor Relations from Cornell University in 1968 and her J.D. from St. John’s School of Law in 1998. She's admitted to practice law in the State of New York,1999; the United States Southern District, Second Circuit, 2006; and the United States Eastern District, Second Circuit, 2006.
Ms. Maxwell specializes in the defense of medical malpractice actions. Before joining Russo & Toner, Ms. Maxwell was a partner at Kanterman, O’Leary & Soscia, a firm which specialized in medical malpractice. Prior to her admission to the Bar, Ms. Maxwell was the Director of Claims and Risk Management at N.Y. Hospital-Queens (formerly Booth Memorial Medical Center). As both a claims manager and attorney, Ms. Maxwell has over 24 years experience protecting the interests of physicians and hospitals.
Ms. Maxwell is a member of the New York Bar Association, American Bar Association, Nassau County Bar Association, American Society of Hospital Risk Managers, the American Society for Health Care Risk Management, the Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriters and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating & Air-Conditioning Engineers, [ASHRAE]. She is a Vice Chair on the ASHRAE Business Management and General Legal Education committee and has published an article on Surety Bonds. As an accomplished medical malpractice litigator, Ms. Maxwell is often called on to lecture on risk management topics to hospitals in the New York Metropolitan area.
