Immediately after law school Rick was associated with a firm which litigated matters primarily in the areas of general employment law, civil service, employment discrimination, constitutional law and civil rights, accidental disability pensions, and administrative law. He was then a partner in a firm specializing in directors and officers and professional liability insurance, both as counsel for insurers and as counsel appointed by insurers to defend insureds. Representation included litigation of insurance coverage disputes and bad faith claims. Substantive areas involved included securities act (10b-5 and related) claims, fraud, RICO, ERISA, derivative and class actions, wrongful discharge claims, Title VII and related discrimination claims, and claims involving governmental entities and non-profit corporations.
For 22 years prior to joining Marshall Dennehey, Rick was an associate and then principal of Jones Hirsch Connors Miller and Bull P.C.. He practiced primarily in the areas of appeals, insurance coverage, and insurance defense cases, handling a large number of matters involving third-party and first-party insurance claims, as well as appeals. He also represented insureds in a wide variety of bodily injury, property damage, and contract claims. His practice also included evaluation and defense of aviation insurance coverage cases and aviation liability claims.
