The Firm was founded in 1958 by Eugene L. Stewart as a general practice firm but has devoted most of its energies since its founding to international trade and customs issues. Today, in addition to helping industries, individual companies, workers and governments deal with import and export issues of concern in the U.S. (customs classification, valuation, audits, disputes, antidumping, countervailing duty, safeguard/escape clause, market access abroad, standards, rules of origin, sanitary and phytosanitary matters, government procurement, export controls, foreign corrupt practices matters, compliance with economic sanctions, dispute settlement within regional and multilateral agreements including NAFTA and the WTO, lobbying on legislation, monitoring and providing input on bilateral, regional and multilateral negotiations and agreements), we are also helping clients with similar issues in countries in other parts of the world (including Mexico, Canada, the E.U., Australia, F.T.A.A. region, the C.I.S. region, Asia, Africa). We have broadened our agenda to include transactional issues and electronic commerce. The firm has an associate law office in Belgium to represent client interests within the E.U. It has a representative office in Moscow to support client interest within the Russian Federation. The firm has worked with a wide variety of clients--e.g., agriculture, horticulture, consumer products including electronic products and components, chemicals, metals, transportation equipment, industrial equipment, rubber products, auto parts, antifriction bearings, glass, coatings, textiles, housewares, and various service sectors.
The law firm of Stewart and Stewart, the offices of Mr. Bernard Spinoit, and the offices of Mr. Nikolai Zhdanov are separate and independent law firms. The firms do not have access to each other's client information and do not practice law together. Instead, Stewart and Stewart engages the services of the offices of Mr. Spinoit or Mr. Zhdanov on a case-by-case basis, dependent upon the unique needs of each client.
