Julie was born and raised in Rochester, Minnesota. She received her undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Florida and received her Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Florida College of Law. During her diverse career, she has worked as a felony probation officer, a prosecutor, a traffic court hearing officer, a legal research and writing instructor at the undergraduate and law school level, an attorney ad litem, a guardian ad litem attorney and GAL volunteer, a public defender and the director of program development for a non-profit company. Most recently, she worked as a Justice Advisor in Afghanistan where she helped to train Afghan judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys and police officers. She became the Herat Team Leader and supervised nine Afghan staff and up to three international staff and worked closely with Afghan and international agencies. She is currently a member of the Florida Bar Pre-Paid Legal Services Committee and has served on three Florida Bar committees over the last fourteen years, serving as a Vice Chair twice.
She is admitted to practice in Florida and is a certified family mediator and certified arbitrator.
