  • The field of plastics packaging has seen a number of advances in the use of nanotechnology, and packaging sales associated with nanotechnology are expected to grow from about US $66 million in 2003 to $360 million in 2008. Manufacturers that can exploit these new materials will be well positioned to maintain or improve their market share. However, companies that ignore the patent picture will quickly see their advantage disappear. This article gives an overview of recent patents relating to nanotechnology in packaging materials.
