Biography

“I not only help clients solve high-stakes legal problems, but also offer practical advice on how to best protect their interests.”

- Timothy J. Ford

Tim is a member of the firm’s Litigation Department, focusing on complex litigation and investigations. Tim also serves as Co-Chair of the firm’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee. He helps clients navigate all phases of high-stakes commercial litigation and investigations, from prelitigation advice, pleadings, motions practice, and discovery, through trial and appeal.

A large part of Tim’s practice involves litigation and investigations in the public sector, including election law and public ethics investigations. Representative matters include constitutional litigation in state and federal court, nomination petition challenges and defenses, and local ballot questions, as well as campaign finance and public ethics investigations.

Tim is a fixer. He is the person who can help a principal in government and politics accomplish his or her goals. Tim has worked in government and politics at the state and federal levels, on campaigns and in government, and in the executive and legislative branches. This means he can give political as well as legal advice because he has an intimate knowledge of the political environment.

Away from work, Tim enjoys functional fitness training, the craft behind classic cocktails, world travel, and foreign languages.

Experience

For government and political clients, as well as clients with matters before or against government entities, Tim’s experience in both the legal and political arenas informs the advice he gives, making his counsel more practical and beneficial, both legally and politically.

Some of Tim’s notable cases include:

•Successfully intervening on behalf of voters, local political party chairs, and congressional candidates in litigation challenging Pennsylvania’s congressional districts as an unconstitutional partisan gerrymander, representing the intervenors in trial before the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court and argument before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court;
•Advising a corporation on federal constitutional aspects of a potential state statute-base challenge to a major business transaction;
•Representing parties in public ethics investigations before the Pennsylvania State Ethics Commission, the Pennsylvania Judicial Conduct Board, and the City of Philadelphia Board of Ethics; and
•Representing candidates and voters in successful challenges to and defenses of nomination petitions in state and federal elections.

Activities & Honors

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Ford served as a law clerk to the Hon. Timothy J. Savage on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He also worked as an associate in a Washington, D.C. law firm where he focused on litigation and investigations in international trade. During law school, Mr. Ford served as executive editor on the Michigan Law Review.

Tim has also served as a legislative assistant to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means, worked on the policy team of a major statewide political campaign in California, and defended state law and policy in state and federal court as a legal intern in the Michigan Solicitor General Bureau.
