Biography

Eric Nielsen's practice is centered on intellectual property counseling, primarily in the biotechnology and mechanical device arenas. From the benchtop as a researcher on artificial vision systems and methods, to the IP team of a publicly-traded molecular diagnostics company, Eric brings practical experience as he counsels clients in the design and implementation of business driven strategies to identify, protect, defend, enforce and otherwise build value around IP assets.

He has experience in many facets of IP law including patent and trademark prosecution (U.S. and foreign), patentability and trademark registrability diligence, freedom to operate diligence, non-infringement and invalidity opinion work, copyrights, IP dispute resolution and litigation (state and federal), and diverse agreements and business transactions having IP components.

Eric counsels clients ranging from emerging growth to global companies, and he has technical expertise in, among other fields, bioengineering, medical devices, ophthalmology and optics, molecular diagnostics, pharmaceuticals, mechanical devices and a wide range of consumer products.

Eric regularly presents to attorneys, academia and businesses on various IP niches. He is also chair of the firm’s Summer Associate Program in the Salt Lake City office.
