Most recently, he successfully represented an international law firm in a legal malpractice action filed in the State of Maine. Prior to joining Verrill Dana, Bob served as Chief Executive Officer of the Portland, Oregon firm of Tonkon Torp LLP and as the Chief Operating Officer of the Northwest regional firm, Stoel Rives LLP.

Biography

Robert Hirshon focuses his practice on general litigation, ethics and professional responsibility. Bob has served as regional counsel for an asbestos manufacturer, and lead counsel for the RTC and the FDIC in Maine and New Hampshire. He also served as National Counsel for AFFECT (Americans For Fair Electronic Commerce Transactions). Most recently, he successfully represented an international law firm in a legal malpractice action filed in the State of Maine. Prior to joining Verrill Dana, Bob served as Chief Executive Officer of the Portland, Oregon firm of Tonkon Torp LLP and as the Chief Operating Officer of the Northwest regional firm, Stoel Rives LLP.

Bob has held numerous leadership positions, including President of the American Bar Association during 9/11 and its aftermath. He has also served as the President of the Maine State Bar Association, President of the Maine Bar Foundation, and Chair of the Tort, Trial and Insurance Practice section of the American Bar Association. He currently serves as Special Counsel to the University of Michigan Law School on Developments in the Legal Profession. Additionally, Bob holds an endowed chair at the University of Michigan Law School. As the school’s first Frank G. Millard Professor from Practice, Bob teaches ethics and professional responsibility and a law practice management seminar. In May of 2011, Bob was chosen to teach a one-month course on law practice management and legal trends at Peking University’s School of Transnational Law, in Shenzhen, China.

In addition to his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Michigan, Bob also holds several honorary degrees and is the recipient of numerous national awards.
