  • In one of his first significant acts of the new year, Governor Bob Taft recently signed three pieces of legislation aimed at reforming some of the statutes that play an important role in civil liability ("tort") cases in Ohio. These three tort reform bills, two of which were signed January 8, 2003, one of which was signed January 10, 2003, represent the final product of months of political wrangling in the Ohio Legislature. They come in the wake of the 2002 elections, where tort reform and the current medical liability crisis played a prominent role in Ohio politics, most notably in the campaigns for governor and for two available seats on the Ohio Supreme Court.
