He subsequently obtained his Bachelor of Science in Law and Juris Doctor Degrees from Western State University in 1987.
Jeff has practiced in a number of legal arenas, but as a San Bernardino lawyer, he currently emphasizes business law, corporate law, contract law, and family law.
Jeff began his legal career as a trial attorney with a small general practice law firm in Rancho Cucamonga where he practiced general business law, plaintiff personal injury, family law, and performed general transactional work with various business organizations. Jeff was active within the community as the law firm was the general counsel for the Rancho Cucamonga Chamber of Commerce.
In the early years of practice, Jeff assisted the courts with pro bono assistance at the legal aid clinic through the West End San Bernardino Bar Association and sat as an arbitrator and mediator for both San Bernardino and Riverside County Superior Courts.
On the personal injury side, Jeff was in-house counsel for Safeco Insurance Company, where he practiced personal injury defense, insurance defense, represented select market insureds, and was involved in construction defect litigation.
In 1995, Jeff was retained to manage a law practice as the Senior Trial Attorney for an ailing attorney. Jeff then opened his own law practice. After selling his successful practice, he joined a highly rated medical malpractice defense law firm, wherein the scope of representation included physicians, medical groups, emergency medical facilities, skilled nursing facilities, hospitals, and regional medical facilities.
Also in 1995, Jeff began teaching business and corporate law as an adjunct professor at California State University, San Bernardino. As an adjunct professor, his scope of classes was expanded to include legal environment, employment law, industrial relations, collective bargaining agreements, psychology of human resources, and a Master’s program class focused on a third party’s effect on alternative dispute resolution. In addition to teaching at California State University San Bernardino, in 2004 Mr. Dains began teaching law-related courses at the University of California, Riverside.
In June 2007, Jeff was sitting Judge Pro Tem with the Superior Court in Riverside County when he accepted a position as a San Bernardino lawyer with Borton Petrini, LLP. Jeff continues his practice in the business law, personal injury, commercial landlord-tenant law, contract law, and family law as well as participating in various speaking engagements on law-related topics within his areas of practice.
