Charmaine graduated from the University of California, Riverside with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Law & Society. She then attended law school at California Western School of Law in San Diego. Her legal experience began in criminal law as a certified legal intern with the San Diego Public Defender, Juvenile Division, followed by a termporary internship and opportunity in civil litigation with her then future employer, Thompson & Colegate that ended in the spring of 2003.
In June 2003, Charmaine joined a civil defense firm in Ontario, California that primarily specialized in medical malpractice defense and insurance defense of healthcare providers. She would remain with that firm for nearly eleven years until her return to Riverside and Thompson & Colegate in March 2014.
