Jessica Mackaness is an associate in the firm’s San Diego office. Her practice focuses primarily on business and corporate litigation, securities arbitration and litigation, and employment litigation, representing both individual and commercial clients. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Mackaness worked at Sheppard Mullin defending insurance carriers against claims for bad faith, fraud, and unfair competition in both individual and class action cases.
Ms. Mackaness earned her J.D., graduating magna cum laude, from the University of San Diego School of Law in 2010, where she was also elected to the Order of the Coif. She previously earned her B.A., graduating cum laude, in business administration from the University of Florida in 2007. While in law school, Ms. Mackaness was an extern for the Honorable William Q. Hayes of the United States District Court for the Southern District of California. She was also extensively involved in providing pro bono legal services for the city of San Diego and the University of San Diego’s legal clinics, clerking for both the Entrepreneurship Clinic and the Special Education Clinic, for which she received high honors and graduated with the Pro Bono Service Recognition award for her work. Ms. Mackaness also participated in various moot court competitions and earned a CALI award for excellence in evidence. In addition, she received both the Faculty Honor and Dean’s Outstanding Merit scholarships during law school.
In 2013, Ms. Mackaness was named a Young Attorney Finalist by the San Diego Daily Transcript, which is a peer nominating process that asks San Diego County lawyers to name the best young attorneys in San Diego County.
