• Compromise Immigration Reform Stalls in Senate -- Debate to Resume April 24th?

  • On Friday, April 7th, the Senate was unable to reach agreement on immigration reform legislation before the two-week spring recess. Each party blamed the other for the failure to adopt procedures allowing a vote on the Hagel-Martinez Compromise. That Compromise, reached on April 6th, would have included measures for heightened border security and a guest worker program that could lead to eventual citizenship for many illegal aliens now residing in the United States.
