The firm of Boyd, Fernambucq & Dunn, P.C., serving clients in the Central Alabama area, is comprised of partners Ron Boyd, Rick Fernambucq, and Charles Dunn, and associate Joseph Callaway, and a support staff of seven.
With the goal of upgrading the practice of family law in the state, and seeing the benefits for clients of a firm concentrating on such cases, Ron Boyd and Rick Fernambucq founded Boyd, Fernambucq, Dunn & Fann, P.C., in 1987. Since its founding, the firm has earned a reputation for taking on complex family and matrimonial law matters, and its attorneys understand the obstacles facing clients inside and outside the courtroom. The firm assists clients not only in initial divorces but also in modification and enforcement of existing divorce decrees, appeals, paternity, and adoptions. Its attorneys deal regularly with both federal and state law in property division issues such as alimony, retirement benefits, business and asset valuations, and in custody disputes and child support matters, and the tax issues implicated in such cases.
Fernambucq and Boyd were among the founders of the Family Law Section of the Alabama State Bar, and have each served as Chair of that section as well as President of the Alabama Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. The firm's attorneys, including partner Charles Dunn and associate Heather Fann, remain leaders in their practice area, serving in local and national bar associations and lecturing frequently on continuing legal education issues.
Fernambucq is the author of Family Law in Alabama: Practice and Procedure, a staple text for Alabama's family law practitioners since its first publication in 1990, the fourth edition of which was published and released in 2010. Fernambucq contributes quarterly articles on recent developments in family law for the Birmingham Bar and Alabama Family Law Section newsletters.
Both Boyd and Fernambucq have recently been named "Birmingham Best Lawyers Family Lawyer of the Year" as a result of their peers having consistently rated them at the top of their field, Boyd in 2009, and Fernambucq in 2010. Boyd was also chosen by his peers in the Alabama Family Law Section as Lawyer of the Year for 2008. Fernambucq and Boyd are AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell, and Boyd and Fernambucq are regularly listed in Superlawyers and Best Lawyers. Charles Dunn teaches family law for the paralegal certificate program at the Orlean Bullard Beeson School of Education at Samford University. Heather Fann was selected by her peers as a Rising Star for Superlawyers 2011 and among the Top Attorneys for Birmingham Magazine's 2011 edition in the area of family law.
Boyd, Fernambucq, Dunn and Callaway form a team of lawyers offering clients over eighty years of combined experience in both the letter of the law and local practice in order to assist them in getting the best possible results with an emphasis on problem-solving, whether by settlement, mediation, or litigation of their very personal issues.
