Sports Law

Both amateur and professional sports and athletes are governed by a body of laws that address a host of issues, including eligibility, sports funding, contract law, labor law, antitrust law, intellectual property law, workers' compensation, tax and personal injury law. Sports law attorneys may represent one or several categories of clients, including athletes, sports teams, schools, sports leagues, players' unions, facilities owners and/or sports' governing bodies. Depending on the nature of the client, sports lawyers can assist clients with contract negotiation, drafting and review; eligibility disputes, hearings and appeals; Title IX issues; intellectual property licensing and enforcement; and athlete-agent issues.
