Phil Tatlow has worked in litigation since graduating from St. Louis University Law School in 1991. He served as the President of another law firm in St. Louis County before joining Bollwerk & Tatlow. Phil is licensed to practice law in the states of: Missouri, Illinois and Wisconsin. He has handled cases in numerous jurisdictions throughout Missouri and Illinois Circuit Courts, as well as before the Division of Worker's Compensation. He has handled appeals in the Missouri Court of Appeals and the Illinois Court of Appeals. Phil has handled many hearing before the Social Security Administration. He is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Eastern District Court of Missouri and in the United States Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit. Phil handles Federal Litigation of ERISA disability, life and accidental death cases in Missouri and Illinois Federal Courts.
Phil obtained a Bachelor of Arts with a dual major in Psychology and Criminology from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1986, after growing up in Moberly, Missouri. He is the son of a trial lawyer and of an author of short-stories. This background helped prepare him for his legal career in personal injury, in representing working men and women, and for his work in the courtroom. Prior to Law School, he worked with the developmentally disabled and helped start a group home for Mildly Mentally Disabled Women in Columbia, Missouri.
He is a Member of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis; Illinois State Bar Association; The Missouri Bar Association; the Wisconsin Bar Association; the American Association for Justice; and the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys.
Phil handles Personal Injury cases, Premises Liability Cases, Nursing Home cases, Worker's Compensation cases and ERISA Long-Term Disability Cases and Accidental Death and Life Insurance cases. Many of his clients are injured people that have insurance disputes involving, injuries, death and disability matters. In addition, he has handled numerous hearing loss claims for clients exposed to industrial noise at work and repetitive trauma and trauma cases due to injuries to firemen, factory workers and individuals that drive over the road rigs.
Phil has also handled Civil Rights Litigation in Federal Court and other civil litigation involving fraud in real estate matters, insurance contracts, breach of contract and general personal injury litigation. He previously represented police officers, deputy sheriffs and law enforcement officers accused of Excessive Force and violation of Civil Rights in dozens of cases. He successfully tried to a jury several of the Federal Civil Rights cases in Federal Court and was successful on Motions for Sumary Judgment on other civil rights cases.
Phil has handled over 100 jury and bench trials in Missouri and Illinois State and Federal Courts and Administrative Tribunals. He has handled in excess of 175 ERISA cases involving claims for employees for long-term disability benefits, life insurance proceeds or accidental death benefits. He has worked with numerous union clients that have been deprived of their rights by insurance companies or their employers. He has successfully resolved many cases through mediation and arbitration. Phil has also represented Physicians and Attorneys on Long-Term Disability cases in the ERISA context.
Phil has served as a lecturer for the Missouri Bar Association and the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys on personal injury topics such as: Ethics in Personal Injury Litigation, Successful handling of automobile accidents and damages. He has served as a reviewer of Missouri Bar CLE books on damages and personal injury matters. He has lectured to Insurance Claims examiners and attorneys on Worker's Compensation and to the 8th Circuit Social Security Conference on ERISA law and how this impacts Social Security law. He is scheduled to speak at the 2015 Missouri Small Firm and Solo Attorney Conference on ERISA law in your Non ERISA practice.
