Founded in 1967 by attorneys Joseph Barrs and John Williamson, the firm eventually became Barrs, Williamson, Stolberg & Townsend, P.A. Now known as Stolberg & Townsend, P.A., the firm remains committed to the tradition of providing full representation to injured and disabled individuals from negotiation through trial and appeal. Both Vicki L. Stolberg and Byron E. Townsend have specialized knowledge of Workers' Compensation law. Notably, they are both Board Certified in Workers' Compensation Law, which is a distinction given by the Florida Bar and held by just over 230 attorneys statewide. In addition to these specialties and primary practice areas, the firm's attorneys also have expansive backgrounds and experience in medical malpractice and insurance defense work.
Practice Areas & Industries:
With a commitment to protecting injured and disabled individuals, Stolberg & Townsend, P.A. focuses its practice on the areas of Personal Injury, Wrongful Death, Auto Accidents, Workers' Compensation, Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation, Social Security Disability, and State Disability Retirement law. The following are descriptions of the practice areas for which Stolberg & Townsend, P.A. offers representation to clients from negotiation through trial and appeal:
Automobile Accidents, Personal Injury and Wrongful Death: Stolberg & Townsend, P.A. is devoted to representing people injured due to the negligence of others, such as automobile accidents, motorcycle accidents, pedestrian accidents, dog bites, slip and falls, etc. In the event of injury and death due to the negligence of another, the firm represents individuals and their surviving dependents. If you have a medical malpractice or nursing home claim, Stolberg & Townsend, P.A. can assist you. The firm's attorneys explore all avenues of liability and coverage to obtain maximum compensation for all of our clients.
Workers' Compensation: At Stolberg & Townsend, P.A., two of the three partners are Board Certified in Workers' Compensation Law. Under Florida law, employees injured on the job are entitled to specific benefits such as medical care and lost wages. Board Certified attorneys are the only lawyers considered "experts" or "specialists" by the Florida Bar. Stolberg & Townsend, P.A. represents employees and their surviving dependents to ensure they receive the maximum compensation and the proper medical treatment they are entitled to under the law. Stolberg & Townsend, P.A. can help clients with a variety of problems involving Workers' Compensation such as denied and disputed claims, payment delays, inadequate medical treatment and other difficulties. The firm's thorough investigation of each case includes consideration of not only Workers' Compensation coverage, but also Social Security Disability, liability of parties other than the employer, the Americans with Disabilities act, and other potential benefits. This has led to specialized experience in these areas, as well as Personal Injury litigation.
Social Security Disability: Federal law provides monthly Social Security Disability benefits for individuals who suffer from a long-term, major disability that prevents employment. If you are injured or disabled and unable to work, Stolberg & Townsend, P.A. will prepare and try the case before an administrative law judge and will take the case to the Social Security Appeals Court, if necessary. Your case will be presented to Social Security by a partner of the firm.
Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation: Under Federal law, employees who are injured while at sea or in related work areas such as a wharf, dry dock, or terminal are entitled to compensation. While the benefits are similar to general Workers' Compensation, the legal details and coverage differ from those provided by state law. In Tampa, where thousands of workers are employed at the nation's eight busiest port, this is an important legal specialty.
General Services: In addition to the firm's areas of specialty, Stolberg & Townsend, P.A. can assist clients with the writing of wills, simple real estate and commercial contracts, powers of attorney, and general litigation. For complex matters involving other areas of law, Stolberg & Townsend, P.A. will be happy to recommend and co-counsel with qualified attorneys who specialize in the appropriate field.
