While attending Arizona State University College of Law, Karen was an Editor for Jurimetrics: The Journal of Law, Science, and Technology and argued her first case before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals as a law student. After graduating from law school, Karen was a judicial law clerk for the Arizona Court of Appeals, Division One. She then practiced complex civil litigation with a large law firm in Phoenix. Subsequently, she had a diverse civil litigation practice and served as a city prosecutor in rural Arizona. Outside the office, Karen is very involved with her three children, cheering them on in various sporting activities and volunteering with their elementary school.
