Biography

A member of Eversheds Sutherland (US)'s Insurance team, David Hancock counsels clients on issues affecting today’s increasingly global insurance industry, including ratemaking and reinsurance, licensing, mergers and acquisitions, product design, insolvencies and corporate finance.

Though he has a broad background in California insurance law, David’s practice is truly national in scope. He has represented both buyers and sellers in M&A transactions involving some of the industry’s largest, best-known entities. He has also provided legal counsel on several of the most significant industry insolvencies of the past three decades, including Executive Life Insurance Company, First Capital Life Insurance Company, and Golden Eagle Insurance Company.

David advises clients on a range of insurance industry regulatory matters involving producers, insurers, adjusters, administrators and other service providers. He has a depth of knowledge in areas such as life insurance product approvals, including the reform of California's regulations for approving variable products; the introduction of index annuities and guaranteed benefit riders; the regulation of insurance company permissible investments; and in the Holding Company Act regulation of affiliate transactions.

David also counsels clients in numerous specialty areas, including workers' compensation insurance, title insurance, financial guaranty insurance, mortgage guaranty insurance, service contracts (extended warranties) and point-of-purchase insurance products sold in connection with retail goods and services.
