Biography

Lewis Wiener, an experienced trial and appellate attorney with more than three decades of trial and counseling experience, represents a broad array of clients in state, federal and appellate court litigation throughout the United States. Lew co-chairs the firm’s global Financial Services Disputes and Investigations (FSDI) Practice Group, heads the domestic (US) Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) counseling and defense group and recently concluded a four-year term as a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. His extensive litigation and trial experience as a former prosecutor and senior trial attorney with the United States Department of Justice includes serving as class action defense counsel, conducting large internal investigations, handling complex litigation matters, and representing entities in litigation brought by and against the federal government. Lew also represents clients in eminent domain/inverse condemnation, environmental and land-use litigation before state and federal trial and appellate courts.

While at the Department of Justice, Lew was selected by the Attorney General to serve as lead government counsel in the largest class action ever filed against the United States. He was also twice recognized by the Attorney General for special achievement in handling significant litigation matters on behalf of the United States.

Lew holds prominent leadership positions in national and local organizations including serving as co-chair of the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs (2013 - 2015) and currently serves on the Committee’s Executive Committee, as two-time president of the United States Court of Federal Claims Bar Association (2002, 2014) and as the judicially appointed chair of the Court of Federal Claims Advisory Council (2016 - present). He is also vice chair of the Foundation Board of the State University of New York at Albany (2011 - present). Lew served as vice-chair of the Board of Trustees of the Norwood School (2011 - 2017) and is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the Holton-Arms School (2016 - present). He also serves as general counsel and as a member of the Board of Directors of Washington Hebrew Congregation (2013 - present) and as pro bono partner for Eversheds Sutherland (US)’s Washington DC office.
