Bill has been a trial attorney in Winston-Salem since 1984 and served as General Counsel for regional general contractor John S. Clark Company from 2007 through 2012. Bill has tried cases in federal and state courts throughout North Carolina including the North Carolina Business Court and has handled matters in the North Carolina Supreme Court, North Carolina Court of Appeals, and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. As General Counsel for John S. Clark Company, Bill was responsible for contract review, negotiation and preparation resolving disputes with owners and subcontractors, assisting with employee matters and representing the company in arbitrations, mediations and court proceedings. Bill has extensive experience in construction law, business law, aviation law, employment law, personal injury and municipal law. Bill has been a certified mediator and arbitrator since 1992 and has served as a mediator in more than 500 cases including personal injury, wrongful death and complex multiparty business and construction disputesBill received a B.A. (cum laude) in economics from Queens College in New York in 1980 and his law degree with high honors from Duke University in 1983.Bill is admitted to practice in North Carolina, the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of North Carolina, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He is a member of the Forsyth County Bar Association, North Carolina Bar Association (litigation and construction sections) and American Bar Association (member of Forum of Construction Industry and litigation section). Also experienced mediator and arbitrator, having mediated several hundred cases and serving as arbitrator for dozens of cases since 1992.
