Biography

Ayanna Ferdinand Catlyn has a general corporate and commercial law practice. She serves as a local agent for Canadian and international companies, law firms and not-for-profit organizations seeking opinions or direct assistance with corporate and commercial transactions, including commercial real estate and financing transactions impacting their operations in the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Yukon. She also has a general solicitor’s practice dedicated to serving similar business needs of local clients based in the northern territories.

Ayanna enjoys advising on a broad range of business issues and structures, including joint ventures, secured transactions, amalgamations, shareholder agreements, corporate governance, purchase and sale of shares and assets, corporate-aboriginal law matters, director and officer liability, risk management, conflicts of interest and regulatory compliance. She regularly negotiates and documents simple and complex agreements.

Ayanna also regularly advises the Northwest Territories Public Utilities Board on daily operational decisions, long-term organizational strategy, corporate and commercial issues, policies and procedures, and administrative law.

Ayanna is called to the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Yukon and Ontario Bars.

Value to Clients

Before joining the firm, Ayanna served as general counsel and corporate secretary for several organizations for more than a decade, including successfully amalgamating one of the largest hospitals in Ontario. She was a key member of her clients’ leadership teams, advising executives on strategy and negotiating multi-million-dollar transactions. Ayanna’s in-house experience taught her important principles that she applies to her private practice today, including the importance of adding daily value to her clients’ operations, ensuring that their interests always come first and energetic dedication to every file.

Outside of Work

Ayanna and her husband enjoy traveling to destinations around the world and having new experiences, volunteering at the local SPCA and providing a foster home for neglected cats. Ayanna also enjoys biking to work, running, skiing and a variety of Northern sports.
