Andrew R. At DePaul, he was a member of the Law Review and published an article on the patentability of cloning and patentable subject matter. Combining technical training with his law studies, he also completed a Master of Science in Computer Science at DePaul University, where he focused on software design and programming, as well as database system design and artificial intelligence. Mr. Smith earlier served as a United States Army Field Artillery Officer for six years, attaining the rank of Captain. First assigned to Fort Bragg in North Carolina, he was a platoon leader and staff officer in a parachute-deployed howitzer battalion. He subsequently served as a Fire Control Officer at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point with a Bachelor of Science degree.
