Carl Ficks serves businesses in the trucking and transportation, construction and maritime industries as their outside counsel, legal advocate and counselor. He is also Co-Chair of Halloran & Sage's Trucking and Transportation Practice.
Carl has extensive trial and appellate experience, including numerous arguments before the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, and before federal and state courts and administrative agencies. He also represents clients in the negotiation and administration of labor-management agreements and before labor relations agencies.
Carl currently serves as the Chairman of the Board of the Hospital for Special Care in New Britain, CT. The Hospital for Special Care is a private, not-for-profit 228- bed long term acute and chronic care hospital, widely known and respected for its expertise in neuromuscular care, physical rehabilitation, respiratory and pulmonary care, and medically complex pediatrics. He is a past member of the board of directors of the New Britain Boys & Girls Club and the New Britain-Berlin Rotary Club, and actively served as a fundraiser for the New Britain YMCA for many years. Carl is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association as well as the Council of Counsel of the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association.

Carl Ficks Appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Hospital for Special Care
The Hospital for Special Care (HSC) recently announced that Carl Ficks, Jr. was appointed Chairman of its Board of Directors. Carl was officially named Chairman at the Hospital's 14th Annual Meeting of Corporators and Donor Appreciation Reception.
As Chairman, Carl will preside at all meetings of the board and is responsible for the overall governance and management of affairs at the Hospital. Carl also will ensure that HSC continues to stay true to its mission by anticipating and being responsive to the changing needs of its communities and a changing healthcare environment by creating an innovative, fiscally-sound, cost-effective system of care.
In addition to his business savvy, Carl has a strong sense of community and fully understands the Hospital for Special Care's mission, said David Crandall, president and CEO at the Hospital for Special Care. We are pleased to have such an experienced chair lead our board as we continue to execute our highly-focused and successful strategic plan.
Over the years, Carl has been extremely active within the New Britain community. Halloran & Sage attorneys recently participated in a wide of range of diversity programs in conjunction with the Lawyers Collaborative For Diversity, Inc (LCD).
The Lawyers Collaborative for Diversity was formed by concerned lawyers to answer the call for diversity. Their current challenge is to increase the recruitment, retention and promotion or lawyers of color. Their mission is to unite the resources, energy and commitment of the State's leading law firms, corporations, public sector entities, law schools and state bar associations in the joint mission of making Connecticut a more attractive place for attorneys of color and women to practice law and find satisfying professional opportunities.
Recently, at the LCD annual meeting, Attorneys, Carl Ficks, Jr., Brian Rich, William Wilson, II and Al DiVincentis participated in an open forum facilitating the advancement of the diversity dialogue. The discussion focused on the importance of mentoring during law school so that law students of color have every opportunity to succeed academically and develop strong networking skills to help them become successful members of the bar.
A variety of topics were covered, including job searching, life as lawyers and public sector opportunities for law students of color.
Recently, Attorneys Alfred DiVincentis, Jeffrey Gostyla and Human Resources participated in a discussion entitled Creating Best Practices for Evaluations of Associates of Color.
