Practice/Industry Group Overview
Davis & Gilbert has extensive experience in the area of estate planning and administration of estates and trusts. The practice is geared to meet the needs of both the liquid estate and the non-liquid, highly complex estate. The Firm provides counsel during the initial estate planning phase and prepares wills, durable powers of attorney, living wills and other similar instruments which employ lifetime transfer techniques and other estate planning strategies. We utilize a broad range of methods to maximize a client's estate planning goals while minimizing income, gift, estate, inheritance and generation-skipping tax consequences, including the use of testamentary and inter vivos credit and martial trusts, generation-skipping trusts, revocable and irrevocable trusts, insurance trusts, special needs trusts, charitable remainder and charitable lead trusts, personal residence trusts, family partnerships, charitable foundations and other sophisticated estate planning tools. Davis & Gilbert also provides representation and assistance in the actual administration of the estate or trust, including post-mortem tax and economic planning. The Estate Planning and Administration Department interacts extensively with the Firms' other practice groups, including Employment Practices, Corporate and Real Estate.
