GrayRobinson provides insurance legal services on a broad range of issues, representing insurers, managed care entities, agents and adjusters. As described below, our practices include operations and compliance, insurance regulatory, lobbying, managed care and health care, litigation and dispute resolution, as well as general corporate, mergers and acquisitions, finance and other transactions.

Operations and Compliance - Our In-House Edge

Members of our insurance industry practice formerly were in-house general counsel for insurers and health care entities. From these experiences, we are better able to provide strategic counseling in all aspects of insurance operations - including Florida and federal regulatory compliance, claims, underwriting, product, agency services, training, strategic planning, gap analysis, internal policies, and investigations.

Government, Administrative and Regulatory

Our Tallahassee presence facilitates a broad government practice. We lobby before the Florida Legislature and executive branch agencies, including the Executive Office of the Governor. We have represented clients before Florida's Office of Insurance Regulation, the Department of Financial Services, the Florida Hurricane Catastrophe Fund, residual market entities and guarantee funds. We appear regularly before the Division of Administrative Hearings. Our insurance regulatory practice includes form and rate filings, company formation and licensure, administrative challenges, and insolvencies.

Managed Care and Health Care

GrayRobinson has one of Florida's largest health care practices. We understand all sides of the health care business, representing insurers, hospitals, physicians and other providers. Our insurance practice covers health insurance regulation, compliance, HIPAA, PPACA, ERISA defense and managed care contracting, among other federal and state law issues.

We advise a wide variety of payers and managed care entities, including health plans and health insurers, health maintenance organizations (HMOs), Medicare Advantage (MA) plans, Medicare prescription drug plans (PDPs), Medicaid state waiver managed care plans (Waiver Programs), self-insured employers, third-party administrators (TPAs), preferred provider organizations (PPOs), exclusive provider organizations (EPOs) and workers' compensation managed care organizations (HCOs).

We have a wide range of experience in reimbursement, regulatory, contracting, operations and compliance matters. We can assist our managed care clients on issues such as noncontracted-provider payment practices, disputed claims, capitation reconciliation, economic credentialing, any-willing-provider payment, contract negotiations, silent PPOs and tiered networks. Regulatory issues on which we can assist include formation, licensure and certification of managed care organizations and provider networks.

Litigation, Including Insurance Defense, Appellate, ADR and Subrogation

Our litigation practice includes insurance defense, commercial litigation, appeals, alternative dispute resolution and subrogation. As panel or special counsel, GrayRobinson handles a broad range of insurance defense matters, including underwriting and coverage disputes, property, commercial, general and professional liability and uninsured motorist. Clients benefit from our presence in 10 Florida cities.

We also litigate in the areas of admiralty and maritime, antitrust, aviation, banking, condemnation and eminent domain, construction, corporate, employment and labor, environmental, ERISA and employee benefits, health care, intellectual property, land use, medical malpractice, personal injury, product liability and toxic tort, professional malpractice, securities and transportation.

Corporate, Mergers and Acquisitions and Securities

Our corporate lawyers are experienced as outside and inside general counsel to insurers, agencies and brokers and other publicly and privately held business entities. We counsel insurance entities and other corporate clients through corporate governance issues, employment contracts and disputes, complex reorganizations and restructurings, capital raisings, structured finance, lending, securities, venture capital, private equity, and other finance and corporate transactions, as well as in management service agreements, taxation, reinsurance and investment advisory compliance. We also have experience in preparing related transactional regulatory filings.
