| Biography | Heather L. Rosing serves as the Chairperson of the Professional Liability Department, overseeing a team of Klinedinst lawyers across the state in the defense of professionals such as lawyers and accountants. Ms. Rosing has developed a nationwide reputation for her experience and skill in litigating complex malpractice and fraud cases; in defending lawyers, accountants, and judges in disciplinary matters; and in delivering sound advice in the areas of ethics and risk management. Ms. Rosing also serves as a consultant and expert witness in the areas of fee disputes, professional responsibility, privileges, and attorney duties. In her practice, Ms. Rosing has represented hundreds of lawyers and other professionals in hundreds of cases and matters in State Court, Federal Court, and arbitration proceedings. Her track record includes numerous and notable victories, both by way of motion and at trial. In addition to serving as the Department Chairperson, Ms. Rosing served as General Counsel of Klinedinst from 2005-2007, and has been the Chief Financial Officer of the firm since 2006. As a member of the Klinedinst Board of Directors and Executive Committee, she also serves as one of the managing attorneys of the 130 employee firm. Since October of 2000, Ms. Rosing has been the recipient of Martindale-Hubbell's highest rating. In 2008 and 2009, Law and Politics recognized her accomplishments in Professional Liability Defense in its San Diego Super Lawyers® publication. Law & Politics also named her a Top 25 Woman Lawyer" (2009 and 2010) and "Top 50 Lawyer in San Diego (2010). The San Diego Daily Transcript named Ms. Rosing a "Top Attorney" in 2009, and the YWCA honored her with a "Tribute to Women and Industry" award. In 2004, she was selected for the "40 Under Forty" award by San Diego Metropolitan Magazine. Ms. Rosing donates much of her time to speaking and teaching on ethics, professionalism, and malpractice all over the State and County. She has been a speaker at the annual conferences for both the American Bar Association and the California State Bar Association, and at the annual seminars hosted by the Committee on Professional Responsibility and Conduct (COPRAC). She co-teaches a class on ethics for accountants for the CalCPA Education Foundation. Ms. Rosing also was appointed in 2009 to the American Bar Association's Standing Committee on Lawyers' Professional Liability, and chaired its bi-annual conference in September, 2009 in Chicago. Locally, she has been an organizer of the American Bar Association's Firm Counsel Project (FCP), hosting roundtable discussions on ethics and risk management for the general counsel and managing partners of San Diego law firms. Ms. Rosing recently finished six years on the Board of Directors of the San Diego County Bar Association (SDCBA), a 10,000 member organization. In 2008, she served as its President, spearheading a countywide campaign to highlight civility and professionalism in the practice of the law. Her service on the Board of Directors was preceded by two years as the co-chairperson of the SDCBA's Legal Ethics Committee. She also volunteered her time to lead a SDCBA committee to establish a pro bono program to assist San Diego's active duty military personnel under the Service Members Civil Relief Act. It is one if the first of its kind in the country. Ms. Rosing also previously served on the board of directors of the San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program. She co-chaired the organization's first ever LAF-Off in 2007, and a subsequent competition in 2010. She is also active in Lawyers Club of San Diego, having served as the golf tournament chairperson and newsletter editor. Most recently, she was selected as a member of Rotary Club 33, one of the largest and oldest Rotary service organizations in the Country. In the past, Ms. Rosing also served as the president of the Northwestern Alumni Club of San Diego, a board member of the Northwestern Law School Fund Board and Law School Alumni Board, a board member of the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy, a board member of the Japan Society of San Diego & Tijuana, and a team leader for the San Diego Rock-n-Roll Marathon. Ms. Rosing also is a member of many professional and law-related organizations, including the Professional Liability Underwriting Society and the Louis M. Welsh American Inns of Court. Born in Chicago, Ms. Rosing attended the University of Illinois and Northwestern University School of Law, where she served as president of the Student Bar Association. She has been licensed to practice law in California since 1996, and in Illinois since 1997. |
