Jacob Stone is an associate in the Business Law Group in Quebec City. His practice focuses on corporate and project financing, securities, mergers and acquisitions and venture capital in the mining industry and biotechnology fields as well as legal issues of a general nature concerning companies.
Mr. Stone's experience includes:
•Representing the lenders in a C$102.7 million financing for the construction and operation of a 36 megawatt bioenergy power generation facility in Mackenzie, British Columbia
•$8 million (approx.) over-night bought deal via short-form prospectus for Lorus Therapeutics Inc.
•C$600 thousand private placement of convertible promissory notes for Lorus Therapeutics Inc.
•US$700 million sale of Lafarge North America Gypsum assets to an affiliate of Lone Star Funds
•C$893K private placement of units for Lorus Therapeutics Inc.
•Acquisition of event management company Gestev Inc. by Quebecor Media Inc.
•Acquisition of Victhom Human Bionics Inc. by Ergoresearch Ltd.
•$10 million financing of Myca Health Inc. through the issuance of common shares, preferred shares and convertible debentures
•Acquisition of Groupe Morneau by Wynnchurch Capital Ltd. and CDPQ.
Before joining McCarthy Tetrault, Mr. Stone worked in the investment and services section of the Trade Law Division of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada in Ottawa.
Mr. Stone received a Juris Doctor (magna cum laude) from the University of Ottawa in 2011 after receiving a Bachelor of Civil Law from Universite Laval in 2009. Before studying law, he completed a BA (Honours) in International Relations with a Minor in Economics at Mount Allison University.
Mr. Stone is a member of the Canadian Bar Association. He was called to the Quebec and Ontario Bars in 2012.
