Practice/Industry Group Overview
Clients from around the world rely on Jenner & Block for their most complex and challenging cases. The 250 attorneys in our Litigation Department have tried virtually every kind of litigation across a wide variety of industries. We have represented clients in matters before all 13 U.S. Courts of Appeals, in federal and state courts, and before arbitration panels and administrative tribunals throughout the country and abroad, including the American Arbitration Association, the International Chamber of Commerce, the London Court of International Arbitration, and the New York Stock Exchange.
Our trial prowess in high-profile, bet-the-company litigation is well known. In January of 2006, The American Lawyer selected Jenner & Block as one of the top five litigation departments in the United States over the past two years. Citing our impressive business victories for Fortune 500 clients, the magazine singled out Jenner & Block for our "astonishing" trial results and "hardfought" settlements, as well as our "extraordinary" pro bono efforts. We are ranked by The BTI Consulting Group as a "go-to" law firm, among the "Power Elite" of law firms that "rise above all others," based on its annual survey of 376 corporate counsel at Fortune 1000 organizations, large privately held companies and major financial services firms. Chambers Global legal directory has described Jenner & Block as a firm with "bedrock strength in trial work," while reporting that our clients "...remain steadfast in their support, describing the group as 'absolutely outstanding.'"
Among our partners are 11 partners who are fellows of the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers, over two dozen lawyers recognized as "America's Leading Lawyers" by Chambers USA and numerous leaders of national, state and local bar associations. More than 50 percent of the attorneys in our Litigation Department have clerked for judges in the federal and state systems ¿ including nine who clerked for United States Supreme Court Justices.
We also have a very active Appellate and Supreme Court Practice, which has argued 15 cases before the Supreme Court over the last five terms, including Lawrence v. Texas, recognized by Legal Times as a decision "destined to be a landmark of the decade if not the century," and the much publicized Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. v. Grokster, Ltd. case against file-sharing services which The National Law Journal described as "the most important copyright challenge in decades."
