| Joseph R. Loverdi has a national practice focusing on environmental and toxic/mass tort litigation. Joe also has significant experience litigating cases in both state and federal court involving antitrust and trade regulation, the Federal Employer's Liability Act, ERISA, real estate, construction defects, consumer fraud and products liability. Among Joe's recent representative matters, he has: · Represented a multi-national waste management and disposal corporation in putative class action toxic tort litigation concerning alleged groundwater contamination and in cost recovery actions under CERCLA and the New Jersey Spill Act; · Represented an international petrochemical corporation in litigation concerning groundwater contamination under the Pennsylvania Tank Act and Clean Streams Law; · Represented a national zinc recycling company in defense of catastrophic personal injury litigation; · Represented a national integrated pharmacy services provider in litigation involving the termination of a lease for a proposed retail location in Pennsylvania; and · Represented an international amateur athlete in consumer fraud and products liability litigation against a New Jersey-based manufacturer of nutritional supplements. As a senior attorney, Joe is responsible for managing and supervising attorney teams for mass tort and complex commercial litigation cases. Leading these teams, he provides mentoring and professional development training; advises on managing workflow and utilization; supervises in the management of cases; and assists in handling client relations. Prior to joining Buchanan, Joe was a senior associate with a Philadelphia-based law firm, where he provided counsel to an array of mid- to large-size corporations in the waste disposal, real estate, railroad, construction, banking and finance, telecommunications, education, petroleum, food service and corrugated paperboard industries. From 1996 to 1997, Joe served as a law clerk to the Honorable Joseph H. Rodriguez of the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. Prior to attending law school, Joe was an auditor at a major international accounting firm, during which time he passed the Uniform Certified Public Accountants examination.
