Joe's practice covers all phases of intellectual property law, including patent, trademark, trade secret and copyright matters; preparation of licensing contracts; negotiations; client counseling; direction of corporate identification programs; preparation of validity, right-to-use and infringement opinions; and participation in unfair competition and deceptive trade practice litigation matters. He has also practiced before non-patent federal and state administrative agencies in matters using his technical and law backgrounds.
Joe joined the firm in 1984. He began his professional life with the Army Corps of Engineers, followed by Universal Oil Products Company (UOP), where he served as an operating engineer and then as a supervisory engineer in the Research and Development-Oil and Petrochemical Pilot Plant Group. Next, he joined UOP's patent department and worked there while he attended law school. He subsequently performed a variety of intellectual property functions with UOP as a patent attorney. In 1969, Joe joined the Chicago law firm of Arnstein, Gluck, Weitzenfeld & Minow, where he was named a partner in 1972 and a general partner in 1979.
