Joe's practice covers all phases of intellectual property law, including patent, trademark, trade secret and copyright matters; preparation of licensing contracts; negotiations; client counseling; direction of corporate identification programs; preparation of validity; right-to-use and infringement opinions; and participation in unfair competition and deceptive trade practice litigation matters. He has practiced before nonpatent federal and state administrative agencies in matters using his technical and legal backgrounds and is a member of the firm's Financial Services industry team.

Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent
Handled the U.S. and international trademark portfolios for a natural gas pipeline company, including the initial filing and prosecution of applications throughout the world and in the U.S. and then managed the portfolios.
•Advised on the U.S. and international trademark filings for an American semiconductor manufacturer as it spun off from its former parent company to become an independent entity. Involved from the searching phase and handled the review of U.S. and foreign trademark searches, providing opinions on several marks before the final mark was chosen.
•Handled the domestic trademark portfolios for a national boat manufacturers association; a financial holding company headquartered in Birmingham, Ala.; a television production company; and a major academic hospital in New York City.
•Represented the U.S. and International trademark portfolio of a leading developer of electronic entertainment properties, specializing in the home video game market. Work included filing new applications and maintaining existing registrations; recording and filing multiple assignments and name changes for the U.S. and international portfolios; filing U.S. copyright applications for the client's various video games; and handling and managing the recording of U.S. trademark and copyrights with U.S. customs to facilitate stopping improper imports of counterfeit goods.
