Mark R. Hornak concentrates his practice in civil litigation, labor and employment law, media defense and governmental representations and is a member of the firm's Executive Committee. Mark is a member of the firm's Executive Committee and has served as chairman of its Labor and Employment Law Section, Hiring Committee, Committee for Effective Government and Compensation Committee, and as a member of its Board of Directors. He now chairs its Conflicts Resolution Committee. He is solicitor of the Sports & Exhibition Authority of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County, which owns PNC Park, Heinz Field, the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, and Mellon Arena. He represents the authority in litigation and transactional matters. Mark has represented municipalities and government officials in constitutional and civil rights litigation, and has also advised public school districts on employment and education law matters. Another facet of Mark's practice involves representing national television, radio and publishing clients in media litigation, including defamation, First Amendment and access issues, and in transactional matters. Lawrence Convention Center, PNC Park, Heinz Field and Pittsburgh's new multipurpose arena. · Representation of Hearst-Argyle Television in employment matters nationally. · Representation of the County of Allegheny in federal class action litigation challenging public housing practices. · Defense of author Joseph Wambaugh in litigation related to the best-seller Echoes in the Darkness. · Representation of The New York Times Company in litigation. · Representation of a national retailer and national mutual fund manager in employment litigation, including class action matters. · Appointment as a special master and mediator by federal and state courts in more than 100 class action, employment and general civil litigation matters. · Acting as special counsel, Pittsburgh Public Schools. In recognition of his professional standing and achievements, Mark was selected by his peers for inclusion in the 2003-2009 editions of America's Leading Business Lawyers®, and from 2004 to 2009 as a "Top 50 Lawyer in Pittsburgh."
