Biography

Bill Alexander is a native of Kannapolis, North Carolina. He graduated from Davidson College (BA, 1973), and the Wake Forest University School of Law (JD, 1976). Bill has practiced law for over 48 years. He maintains an “Av-Preeminent” attorney rating by Martindale-Hubbell and a “10-Superb” Avvo attorney rating, the very highest ratings offered. At W.G. Alexander & Associates, in Raleigh, NC, he works closely with business and family clients on asset protection, wealth transfers, elder care planning, estate planning with wills and trusts, and the handling of trust administration & probate.

Bill is a member of the Estate Planning and Elder Law Sections of the NC Bar Association. He is currently active with WealthCounsel, the Mid-South Forum of Estate Planning Attorneys, the Advisors Forum, ElderCounsel, and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA). He was named the NC Elder Law Attorney of the Year in 2011, in 2016, and then again in 2018 by the NC Chapter of NAELA.

Bill retired from the North Carolina Air National Guard in 2003 with the rank of Colonel. During that time, he developed the current legal training course for the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations and managed the US Air Force Civil Affairs program. He was awarded the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Service Medal, and the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, the highest award given by the State of North Carolina.

Bill Alexander is a former Member of the North Carolina House of Representatives for Cabarrus, Union, and Stanly Counties. His government experience includes work on Capitol Hill on the staff of US Senator B. Everett Jordan. Also, he worked for US Senator Sam Ervin as a staff assistant on the US Senate Subcommittee on Constitutional Rights, and as a research assistant for the US Senate Select Committee on Presidential Campaign Activities—the Watergate Committee.

Bill is married to the former Shelia Hunsucker of Kannapolis. They have two sons, George and Thomas. He is an active member and Elder in the Presbyterian Church and a 32º Scottish Rite Mason.
