About Attorney Awards

Biography

Aaron Scheibe is a native of Pierre, South Dakota, and has been with the firm since 2022. Immediately prior to joining the firm, he held several senior positions in South Dakota state government and was an attorney in private practice in Pierre.

Aaron has nearly two decades of experience in public policy, government relations, and administrative law. He has led work on some of the most complex economic development and investment projects in South Dakota over the last decade. Aaron’s broad background allows him to assist clients on a wide range of commercial and governmental issues.

Aaron received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics, International Relations, and Political Science from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, and his Juris Doctorate from the George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C., where he graduated with honors and was a member of the International Law Review. Aaron is a member of the State Bar of South Dakota.

Aaron began his career working for more than a decade at the United States Department of State. During this period, he served as a diplomat at U.S. embassies in the former Soviet Union and in various roles in Washington, D.C., including on the staff of two secretaries of state. His diplomatic career focused on international trade, commercial, and energy issues, in particular assisting U.S. companies doing business abroad.

In 2014, Aaron returned home with his family to become deputy cabinet secretary in the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (“GOED”). As deputy secretary, he served as GOED’s chief operating officer and general counsel, overseeing the agency and staff and handling a wide variety of business development, finance, and legal issues. Aaron served as GOED’s interim cabinet secretary twice before later joining the Governor’s Office as a senior policy advisor. While in the Governor’s Office, Aaron was heavily involved in public safety, transportation, and economic development issues. Aaron subsequently left the Governor’s Office for an opportunity to practice law at a firm in Pierre, where he focused on business and government clients, before once again answering the call of public service and returning to the Governor’s Office as chief of staff.

Aaron and his wife Laura have two school-age sons and are proud to be raising them in South Dakota.
