Biography

Aidan Welsh is a leader in her field. She has practiced family and matrimonial law for the past 19 years. She started her career at Schoonmaker George in 2006 and through her dedication to her clients, the firm, and her career, she became a Partner at the firm in 2015. Aidan has a broad range of experience handling all aspects of complex financial and custody matters, including cases involving disputes regarding alimony, child support, division of assets, and premarital and post-marital agreements.

Aidan frequently represents clients who are business owners, clients who are employed by hedge funds and private equity groups, executives and other professionals, and stay-at-home parents. Aidan has substantial experience working with cases involving domestic violence, substance abuse, and mental health issues. Handling cases involving such issues requires empathy, patience, strategic thinking, and a precise understanding of these complex issues. Aidan also serves as a court-appointed Guardian ad Litem (GAL) in certain cases, where she advocates for the best interests of children involved in family disputes.

Aidan sets herself apart from other family and matrimonial attorneys in her ability to form meaningful and trusted relationships with her clients, the judges, and even opposing counsel.

Aidan is a tenacious advocate for her clients, strategic in her approach to cases, a successful litigator and negotiator, and above all a well-respected member of the family law bar. She takes the time to listen to her clients in order to best serve their needs and interests. No case is the same, and each client receives dedicated and individualized attention to their matter.

In 2019, Aidan joined the prestigious American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) organization. She is one of only 23 divorce attorneys in Connecticut and one of 1,500 divorce attorneys nationwide who have been granted fellowship to this organization. The organization’s stringent requirements for admission demonstrate Aidan’s experience and dedication to providing exceptional legal representation. She is also a recognized leader within the AAML, serving as the current Chair of the Membership Recruitment Committee and the Chair of the National Conference of the AAML, as well as the former Chair of the Connecticut Bar Association’s Family Law Section Executive Committee.

Renowned for her role as a leader in the area of family law, Aidan is frequently sought after as a speaker and author, sharing her invaluable insights on family law. She has presented at notable events such as the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers’ annual conference, where she discussed the intricacies of Separation Agreements, Premarital Agreements, and Alcohol Testing in complex custody cases. Aidan’s written contributions include co-authoring an article about hedge funds in the context of matrimonial actions for CT Lawyer Magazine and serving as the Co-Editor for the Connecticut Family Law Forms book. In addition to her legal contributions, Aidan has been appointed by the court to serve as a Special Master, a dispute resolution professional responsible for providing valuable assistance to other attorneys and parties in an effort to resolve difficult family law cases.

Aidan takes great pride in giving back to the community she lives and works in. She is the past Board Chair for YWCA Darien-Norwalk. Her motivation as a family lawyer stems from a deep understanding of the challenging circumstances her clients face. Aidan aims to utilize her skills and experience to guide them through difficult times, ensuring they emerge stronger and more empowered than before.

Within her firm, Aidan cherishes the collaborative spirit and familial bond shared among her colleagues. For Aidan, her firm is not just a workplace—it is a family. Their harmonious teamwork ultimately benefits their clients, who receive the collective expertise and support of the entire firm.

A proud resident of Darien for over a decade, Aidan shares her life with her husband, Walter, and their two children. They enjoy engaging in outdoor activities such as skiing and biking, and exploring new and exciting places together as a family.
