Biography

Zander is a Partner in our Insurance and Professional Liability practice groups, where his practice focuses on helping clients navigate large loss claims under liability and property insurance programs. His experience includes evaluating insurance coverage claims and risk-transfer opportunities for primary and excess insurers and reinsurers; litigating declaratory judgment, breach of contract, and bad-faith claims in trial and appellate courts; and monitoring complex personal injury, commercial, and products liability litigation against policyholders. Zander has assisted clients in coverage matters such as the 3M Combat Arms Multi-District Litigation (involving over 280,000 lawsuits and a $6.01 billion mass tort settlement); the 2014 Home Depot data breach; and litigation concerning eight to ten-figure personal injury, property damage, and business interruption claims related to industrial accidents, sex abuse, COVID-19, and complex insurance arrangements including risk-purchasing groups, Owner-Controlled Insurance Programs, and excess insurance and Bermuda reinsurance.

Prior to joining Meagher + Geer, Zander served as a law clerk for the Honorable Susan Richard Nelson of the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota. Zander earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Minnesota Law School, and was elected to the Order of the Coif.

During law school, Zander worked as a law clerk for The Cincinnati Insurance Companies, where he participated in various matters related to insurance coverage and defense practice. He also served as a research assistant for Professor Daniel Schwarcz, where he conducted empirical and legal research regarding the courts’ influence on the development of insurance policies and the constitutionality of state insurance regulation. Zander also served as an Articles Editor for the Minnesota Law Review, as a Student Managing Editor for the Constitutional Commentary law journal, and as a Legal Research & Writing Instructor.
