Andrea Bonina began her legal career in 1992 by joining the law firm founded by her father, John Anthony Bonina. From that time to the present her practice has concentrated almost exclusively on significant plaintiff's personal injury cases. In 1995 she became partner in the firm, Bonina and Bonina, P.C., which she and her brother remain partners in today. Andrea is the managing partner of the firm, which handles medical malpractice, product liability, and other complex personal injury litigation.
Ms. Bonina is a frequent lecturer on litigation and practice management topics for mandatory continuing legal education. She is the chair of the Brooklyn Bar Association Technology Committee and has presented lectures on Website Ethics to multiple bar associations throughout the state. She obtained an "AV" rating from Martindale Hubbell, which is the highest rating for skills and ethics, and has been featured in the New York Times "Super Lawyers" section since 2007 as one of the finest plaintiff's product liability litigators in New York.
Ms. Bonina recently concluded her term as the President of the 2,200 member Brooklyn Bar Association. She is a past president of the Bay Ridge Lawyers Association, and from 2006 to 2009 Ms. Bonina served on the Board of Directors of the New York State Trial Lawyers Academy.
Her decision to practice law is an outgrowth of her commitment to helping others. As Co-Chair of an annual fund-raising drive for St. Jude Children's Hospital from 1992 through 2006, Andrea raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for children stricken with catastrophic diseases. Ms. Bonina is also a founder and co-chair of the annual Liz Padilla Memorial 5K race to benefit the Brooklyn Bar Association's Volunteer Lawyer Project. The race raises money to provide pro bono legal services and programs to needy Brooklyn residents.
Her charitable work resulted in her being given the "Woman of Valor Award" by the Institute of Jewish Humanities in 1997. Ms Bonina also received the Hon. William T. Bellard award in 2007 from the Catholic Lawyers Guild of Kings County.
