Biography

Andrew Nolan is a founding partner of Peters & Nolan, LLC. He has devoted his entire career to defending people accused of crimes and has represented thousands of clients charged with felony and misdemeanor offenses in state and federal courts.

Mr. Nolan has earned a reputation for being an aggressive, experienced, and thorough lawyer who gets results. He is a veteran trial attorney and has obtained “NOT GUILTY” jury verdicts for clients charged with serious crimes including sexual assault, child pornography, drug possession, distribution and importation, burglary, illegal weapons possession, domestic violence, theft, menacing, assault, and DUI.

Mr. Nolan knows that police and prosecutors are often overzealous in their quest to get a conviction, typically at the expense of the accused’s constitutional rights. Many times during his career, Mr. Nolan has successfully attacked the actions of law enforcement and obtained orders suppressing crucial evidence being used against his clients.

In addition to his 15 years of practicing criminal law and extensive trial experience, Mr. Nolan also handles appeals in criminal cases and administrative driver’s license revocation matters. His appellate work was published in People v. McCarty, 229 P.2d 1041 (Colo. 2010), a recent case that substantially changed Colorado law pertaining to vehicle searches by police.

A significant portion of Mr. Nolan’s practice is devoted to DUI defense. Every year in Colorado the DUI laws become more and more complex and punishments more severe. Mr. Nolan has long committed himself to aggressively defending DUI cases and continues to expand his knowledge, experience and expertise in the area of DUI. In four separate DUI cases in 2010 alone, he was able to get all charges dismissed against his clients due to illegal seizures, searches and arrests in violation of those individuals’ Fourth Amendment rights. He has litigated countless DUI cases in his career, including Aggravated HTO, Vehicular Homicide and DUI vehicular assaults. He has also frequently appeared as a legal commentator on television news coverage of DUI-related issues. Mr. Nolan is an active member of the National College for DUI Defense and maintains an informative Colorado DUI webpage at 1800DUILAWS.com.

Mr. Nolan was born and raised in Los Angeles County, California, where his father was a Los Angeles Police Detective. From an early age, he was interested in the justice system and developed a strong desire to help people accused of crimes. He holds an undergraduate degree in Journalism and Public Relations and attended the University of San Francisco School of Law, earning his law degree in 1997. He resides in Grand Junction, Colorado
