Biography

Andy Backlund is an experienced litigator and employment law attorney. His employment law practice is focused on matters including discrimination, retaliation, wage and hour matters, unemployment appeals (for clients fired for discrimination or retaliation), severance agreements, and employee employment contracts. He also provides counseling for small businesses regarding legal compliance, handbooks, record keeping, hiring, firing, and employment contracts.

With more than 20 years of practice, Andy has represented clients in individual cases as well as in class action matters, and in contract disputes and matters involving insurance companies. He also has experience in personal injury, tenants’ rights, and product liability law.

Prior to joining our firm, Andy practiced in large firms in Minneapolis and Seattle representing Fortune 500 companies, small businesses, and individuals. He also founded and ran an employment law firm dedicated to representing employees and small employers. This diverse set of experiences has given Andy unique insight into the arguments and strategies that the party on the other side of your dispute is likely to utilize. Andy’s insight gives you the advantage in any negotiation or litigation.

While his practice has focused primarily on employment law, Andy has also practiced in the areas of product liability, construction, personal injury, collections and property law. Andy has conducted hundreds of depositions, prepared briefs, argued motions, managed cases, handled mediations and participated in all stages of litigation through trial.

As a plaintiff’s employment attorney, Andy was responsible for an 8.2 million dollar settlement against Amazon on behalf of thousands of delivery drivers in Washington state. While volunteering his time at Disability Rights Washington, his work has been highlighted on KOMO TV news and various newspapers.

Before practicing law, Andy was a highly successful intercollegiate debater who researched countless hours on a wide array of subjects and turned that work into countless wins on the national debate circuit.
