Biography

Athan Mihalakos has been associated with the firm since 1999, engaging in general practice, special education, school law, and transportation law.

Born in Waterbury, Connecticut, Athan graduated from Fordham University and received his law degree from Loyola Law School. Athan is admitted to practice before the Connecticut Bar, the Pennsylvania Bar, the U.S. District Court, the District of Connecticut, and the U. S. District Court, Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Mr. Mihalakos is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Whether in his own private practice or with our law firm, Athan has always been known for his easy-going and congenial manner when dealing with clients and their families, making them comfortable when consulting about their most private and personal issues.

As both a State of Connecticut Special Education Hearing Officer and a Superior Court Housing Specialist, Athan always demonstrated empathy and mindfulness of the students’, parents’, and pro se litigants’ wishes in seeking the fairness and justice they deserved under the law.

When working on the Connecticut Higher Education Advisory Council, Athan worked closely with state and local education officials in developing modern and beneficial educational policies for Connecticut’s college and graduate students.

As a transportation attorney, Athan worked hard to help his clients get approval for state licenses and certificates of authority so they could begin their entrepreneurial dreams as limousine, small package delivery, and moving companies.

While in the Waterbury corporation counsel’s office and on the Zoning Commission, Athan worked closely with his neighbors and constituents as a watchdog against reckless overdevelopment within the city’s historic borders, in the town in which he proudly grew up.

When not working, Athan is very involved with his Greek Orthodox church, having served on the parish council for 19 years, and for more than 32 years as one of the various co-chairmen of its annual food and plant festival. You might even see him dancing Greek during his breaks. OPA! During his quiet times, Athan is a passionate amateur photographer who loves to travel with his wife, seeking the perfect sunset on a beach!
