Biography

Bassam Odtallah joined Gunty & McCarthy as a law clerk in January 2025. Bassam was admitted to the Illinois Bar in November 2025 after earning his J.D. from the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law in May 2025.

Before beginning his legal career, Bassam earned a B.S. in Public Health from La Salle University in 2018, where he also was a member of the Men’s Swimming and Diving Team and a multi-year academic honoree, earning recognition on both the Atlantic-10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll and the Dean’s List.

Bringing a unique blend of legal and healthcare experience, Bassam spent more than three years as an Emergency Room Patient Care Technician. In this role, he provided direct emergency medical care to patients, including those at trauma levels, and earned a Trauma Certification through the University of Chicago Emergency Department.

During law school, Bassam participated in courses focusing on Trial Advocacy and Dispute Resolution, earning Dean’s List recognition in Spring 2024, Fall 2024, and Spring 2025. Bassam also served as a student attorney with the UIC Veterans Legal Clinic in the Fall of 2024, representing multiple veterans in discharge upgrades and advocating for VA benefits.
